Goals and priorities for 2008 we established at the January 2008 meeting:

Obtain grants to help fund our efforts

Implement an awards program for churches, businesses, and or individuals for merit in ‘green innovation and accomplishments

Increase efficient use of transportation vehicles

   Bags and t-shirts

   3 public meetings

Accomplish having mayor Newman sign U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement

Encourage Hendersonville to reduce energy use

 Accomplishments

We provided 5 judges for a science fair at Hendersonville Middle School on February 6.

We gave a presentation on GW at the Unitarian Church in February.

We co-sponsored a presentation by Richard Fireman on March 29 at St. James Episcopal church.  James presented do-able energy-savings projects for churches.

We provided a press release to Times-News urging Mayor Newman to sign the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement.

We gathered information on the feasibility of acquiring and selling re-usable shopping bags.

Eva monitored the Cliffside Power Plant proposal and attended a meeting  on this topic.

Gary continued to maintain the excellent GWTF web site he created.

Sam found and presented useful information on writing grant applications.

Stan started work on developing a prototype of a working model of global warming.

We  tabled at Energy Earth day.

We toured the Climate Center (NOAA) in Asheville.

Carol gave a presentation requesting a climate change task force for the school system  to the School Board.

We submitted a resolution opposing the Cliffside expansion.

We obtained sample bumper stickers and ordered some made with ‘Drive 55’.

Phil and Frances tabled at the Garden Jubilee.

Eva wrote a letter to T-N on ‘idle-not’, and also wrote an article on this topic for the Citizen-Times.  Eva wrote a letter and presented on this topic to the School Board.

A list of GW facts were collected and Frances produced a book of GW Facts.

Samples of recycled/decomposable food (doggie containers) containers were collected.  An effort will be made to make this technology known to local restaurants.

Frances constructed a 3 panel science fair format with GWTF and GW info on it that can be used at our exhibits.

Eva designed and had some (1500) GWTF air fresheners produced for resale for fund-raising.  These are currently on sale.

We had an exhibit at the SEEXPO.

John oversaw an exhibit at Apple Fest.  Eva arranged to have a solar trailer at our exhibit.  We had ‘Inconvenient Truth’ and ‘Kilowatt Ours” playing at our table.

Some of our group attended the Gaylord Solar Tour (discussed plans for his new green building on Main Street).

We launched the idea of providing some GW-relevant info to the science teachers  of Henderson County schools.  We would follow up by going before the School Board to propose convening a science teacher workshop on GW with the intent to improve student/teacher exposure to GW with advocacy suggestions for students.  The info packets were distributed by several members of the Task Force including the Baileys.

 2009 should be even better!
